EMT Jobs and What to Expect
EMT jobs usually vary depending on your physical skills, interests, education and of course the training that you had. EMT or Emergency Medical Technician has two levels, the Basic and the Paramedics. In Basic EMT, the job description for this is simple. He will be the one to respond to emergency calls and give those in need immediate not to mention efficient treatment before transferring them to a hospital or any facility for medical purposes. Once the EMT arrives on the scene, he should make sure that the ambulance is parked properly to avoid other injuries. This is why their training entails learning about the different types of medication and how to apply them during their EMT jobs and under what circumstances. Among the medications that they are trained to handle are anti-anxiety drugs, analgesics, sedatives, anesthetics and hypnotics.
To become a fully certified EMT, you must be able to comply with the EMT requirements first. The requirements may vary depending on the state you are living but the basic requirements for you to get EMT jobs include formal training as well as being certified. To be able to achieve this, you will be starting off with the basics of EMT where skills in handling respiratory cases, cardio emergencies as well as assessment of patients are involved. Other medical problems like fractures, bleeding, obstruction of the airway and even childbirth should also be learned.
Like it was mentioned before, the requirements for EMT jobs may vary. Some may also require you to have about 35 to 55 hours of additional training aside from the basic lessons you need to learn to become an EMT.
